Sidney City Schools has a proud tradition of outstanding musical talent. Our award-winning Sidney Music Program is comprised of choir, band, and orchestra, beginning in 5th and 6th grades.
There are many benefits to participating in Sidney City Schools Music Program. Here are some of the most significant:

Band
Students at Sidney City Schools have the opportunity to start in the band in 5th grade, when they can learn to play a variety of instruments, including brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. They receive instruction from our talented band directors who will help them develop their skills and technique. Students have the opportunity to play in a group settings through concert band in middle school and high school, as well as marching band in high school.
Orchestra
Students at Sidney City Schools have the opportunity to be a part of orchestra beginning in 6th grade. Sidney City Schools is the only school in Shelby County to have an orchestra program. Students learn a wide range of skills related to playing a stringed instrument, such as the violin, viola, cello, and bass. Early orchestra learning explores bowing, fingering, and posture. As students progress, they will work to develop their technical skills, such as intonation, vibrato, and dynamics, in order to improve their playing and sound.
Choir
Sidney Middle School students in 5th grade may choose choir or general music. In choir, students will learn to Students receive instruction in proper vocal technique, including breath support, tone production, and diction. In middle school, students learn to read sheet music and sing in harmony with others. They may practice sight-singing exercises to improve their ability to read and sing music at the same time. Seventh and eighth grade choirs compete at the Junior High OMEA contests.
Sidney High School is known for its very strong choral program with a variety of performing groups including Treble Choir, Symphonic Choir, and Chamber Choir.
Musical
Sidney High School Drama Department produces at least one musical production each year, traditionally in the spring. Students may audition for roles, be a part of the chorus, or participate as part of the tech crew. Depending on the show, the director may open auditions and participation opportunities to students in middle school.
