Health Services

Sidney City Schools is committed to meeting the daily health care needs of students as well as the educational and long-term care needs associated with illness in children. It is our goal to be a resource and partner to parents and healthcare providers.

School nurses advocate for students in the educational setting, focusing attention on students’ physical health and wellness, as well as their mental, social, and emotional well-being. Within the page, we have a number of resources for families related to student health and well-being.

Feeling Sick? Please stay home!

To help prevent the spread of illness in our schools, please keep your child home if they have any symptoms of flu, COVID-19, or any other illness. This could include congestion or runny nose, sore throat, headache, cough, fever or chills, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.

Students must be fever, vomit, and diarrhea free for 24 hours without the aid of medication before they return to school.

Our school nurses also shared that the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommends keeping children home from school for the following reasons:

  • If awaiting test results for any communicable illness (influenza, COVID, strep, etc.), please keep your child home until you receive test results.
  • A temperature 100.4 degrees or above is generally recognized as a fever. Whether or not the student should attend with a temperature less than 100.4 degrees should include the student’s overall health status and other symptoms.
  • They cannot participate comfortably in activities and/or pose a significant risk to themselves or others.
  • Their condition results in a need for care that is greater than staff members can provide without compromising the health and safety of other students.
  • They pose a risk of spreading harmful disease to others.
  • Some illnesses/injuries may justify exclusion from school until cleared by a healthcare provider (e.g. a student returning to school after surgery).

Immunizations

School Requirements

Ohio State Law and Sidney City School District Policy provide that no student may remain in school for more than fourteen (14) days if they have not received or is not in the process of receiving the required immunizations:

Kindergarten

  • 5 DTaP (Diphtheria/Tetanus/Acellular Pertussis)
  •  4 IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine)
  • 3 Hepatitis B
  • 2 MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • 2 Varicella (Chicken Pox)

7th grade

  • Tdap (Tetanus/diphtheria/acellular pertussis)
  • Meningitis vaccine

12th grade

  • Meningitis vaccine (If the first meningitis vaccine was received before 16 years old, a second meningitis vaccine is needed to meet the requirement.)

If your child has received Tdap within 5 years of entering 7th grade then this will meet the requirement and your child will not need to be re-immunized for entry to 7th grade. You will need to provide documentation to the school.

Students new to the district

Immunization records are required with other enrollment documentation. Immunization compliance will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Sidney City Schools, in collaboration with Wilson Health, is pleased to open a school-based clinic to serve students, staff, and the community at large.

“In order for kids to achieve and succeed, they’ve got to be in school,” says Sidney Superintendent Bob Humble. “And one of the biggest barriers is not having quick access to medical care. Students are missing out on valuable learning time because of it and we want to change that.”

The Wilson Health Clinic at Sidney City Schools provides preferred access for school employees, students, and their families, and is also open to the public for primary care services. A full range of age-appropriate healthcare services is offered in the clinic.

Lyndsey North, CNP, is welcoming new patients at the clinic. With years of experience in a family practice setting, Lyndsey cares for patients of all ages. She provides comprehensive family medicine with a special interest in wellness, preventative care, and disease management.

Faculty, students, and their families can rely on the Wilson Health Clinic at Sidney City Schools to meet their needs for a full range of age-appropriate healthcare services, including:

  • Family medical care including acute illnesses such as flu, colds, cough, etc.
  • Chronic conditions management
