Our closing on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, marks day 6 of calamity days due to inclement weather for the 2020-2021 school year.
Since moving from days to hours, Sidney City Schools exceeds the number of hours required by the Ohio Department of Education. This change permits hours to be used for school delays and closures because of inclement weather while still meeting the state requirements.
While our district would not have to make up days because of exceeding the hour requirement, we believe it is in the best interest of our students that we continue to find ways to keep them academically engaged. Moving forward, this is exactly what we plan to do.
For school closures on day 8 and beyond, our teachers will provide learning opportunities for students which include a combination of e-learning and blizzard bags for students in grades PreK-4 and e-learning for grades 5-12. E-learning activities will be available in Schoology for students with access by 10 am. Students who cannot access e-learning on days when school is closed will be able to access them upon their return and arrangements will be made for students to sign out devices to support access.
Sidney City Schools teachers will be available from 10-12 and 1-3 to support students via email, Schoology messages. Our students' education is important to us, and we will work to create learning opportunities despite our Ohio weather.
