Reduction in Force for Some Sidney City Schools Employees

Sidney City Schools Board of Education met Monday, May 18, 2020, for their regular monthly meeting. They voted to non-renew the contracts of 68 instructional aides due to a reduction in force, in addition to five IT employees for the same reason.

The reduction in force of staff was impacted by three major factors - the district is and has been trying to reduce deficit spending, the emergency operating levy that was on the March 17 Primary ballot did not pass, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional cuts are being discussed as part of a layered approach to curbing deficit spending.

Wilson Health Clinic Opens at Sidney City Schools Wilson Health at Sidney City Schools ribbon cutting ceremony

There’s a need in Sidney City Schools that is being addressed, according to school superintendent, Bob Humble. “In order for kids to achieve and succeed, they’ve got to be in school,” says Humble. “And one of the biggest barriers is not having quick access to medical care. Students are missing out on valuable learning time because of it and we want to change that.”

Sidney City Schools, in collaboration with Wilson Health, is pleased to open a school-based clinic to serve students, staff, and the community at large.
